Taipei County's Yingko area has only a handful of academic institutions, among which YKVHS (Yingko Vocational High School) is at the highest level. YKVHS has successfully developed its uniqueness in seven years' time since its establishment. However, times have changed and ongoing education reforms have made ransformation necessary for YKVHS. In the meantime, the local ceramic industry is faced with survival challenges. This study is aimed at probing the local community's expectations of extension education, furthermore discussing the necessity of establishing a community college and defining the institute’s mission statements, if it is deemed necessary to do so. In other words, the study, which consists of literature review, documented interviews and surveys, and insights of scholars as well as experts, examines the feasibility of transforming YKVHS into a
community college. Literature review and field interviews have been adopted as this research's methodology. The collected documents relevant with the Yingko area or YKVHS have been reviewed. The interviewees include local residents, their representatives, the teaching faculty and school administrators of YKVHS, and
experts, 50 of them in total. |
