The Taiwan Power Company constructed the second nuclear power plant in Yeliu Bay of northern Taiwan in 1980s. With a large quantity of cooling water routinely used for the power plant, the thermal discharge may impact on the surrounding coastal ecosystem. Trying to understand the trophic structure and functioning of Yeliu Bay, and to predict the spatio-temporal variations of the coastal ecosystem impacted by the thermal discharge in the future.
