The restructuring of retail capital in the latter part of twentieth century has yielded new spatial expressions of retailing. The aim of this paper, therefore, is to explore the change in these dynamics of retailing. Archival and survey data are analyzed to investigate this following question, how to explain away the new patterns of urban landscape form, and to make an expression introducing comparison with the patterns in 1980s.
The main finding by means of GIS show that new spatial forms of retailing have emerged: the redeveloped retail street in the urban landscape of Taipei City is one such form. In addition to the 1990s, national and multinational chain stores are invading main street space and along with the rapid transit system.
