Geolgical survey and geochemical exploration were done in the Pinglin area, northeastern Taiwan, and As, Au, Ba, Cu, Hg, Mn, Pb, Sb and Zn anomalies were found in the rocks. Soil Hg anomalies indicate a probable mineralization belt which extends in a north-south trend with dimension of more than 1000 meters in length and 400 meters in width. Auriferous basalt dikes were also found in this study. These could be the source of placer gold discovered in the nearby stream sediments in previous study.
Dating of zircon fission track indicates the hydrothermal alteration of the Pinglin area occurred at 5.4Ma, and the Pb-Zn mineralization of the Chinmienshan area at 7.4Ma.
