The purpose of the research was to examine the relationship between the sex industry and crime and to analyze to what extent current police measures can deter illegal activities within and around the sex industry. In order to achieve the goals, the study first, reviewed the literature on the history of the sex industry and police measures in the past 100 years; secondly, analysed official statistics in Taipei City to test the association of the sex industry and different types of crime rates; thirdly, interviewed key persons in the Chung-shan area, Taipei City, including senior community police officers, residences, local reporters, sex industry employers and sex workers to understand their perceptions of how the sex industry is related to crime; finally, the study proposed possible solutions to regulate the sex industry.
