This thesis focuses on the formation of the settlement of mining industry in Jin-gua-shi. The influence of the industry on local life is an important dimension in this research. The formation of Gin-gua-shi settlement attributed to the development of mining industry, which attracted many people to move and settle down in this town. Through 1897 to 1987, the Japanese domination during the colonization period and the administration of Tai-jin company during KMT governance had great influence on the development of this place. The influence is reflected in every aspects of local life, including the economic system, the structure of the space of its settlement, the way of daily consumption and entertainment, and the community ceremonies and rituals.
